Tips and Techniques to Train Your New Puppy

Tips and Techniques to Train Your New Puppy

Having a dog as a pet can be very rewarding especially puppies. It can seem very challenging to train your new pet but it’s somewhat easier than you thing.

All it requires is a little patience, repetition and determination. You can easily see what your dogs’ behavior, from its facial expressions to its posture. This will then give you a chance to manage any behavioral problems that may arise.

Dog Temper

Dogs that are happy usually have its ears standing up, fast wagging tail, an open mouth, and a wide-eyed look.

Dogs that are hostile in general have lips that show its teeth, hairs sticking out, straight tail and of course, a very mean look in its eyes. The body usually is a little tense and likely shake and the impression that wants to eat you alive.

But then, identifying your puppy’s’ temper can give you time to react for the right action; this will help you train them.

Obeying the Master

First and foremost, you need to show your pet who’s the boss; after all you need to train him. After the puppy knows who to respect, it will likely become easier to train. Wild dogs usually have a leader when travelling as a pack.

One way to show this is to let your dog watch you eating, after that you can feed him when you are done. The wild dogs’ leader eats first, if he begs, growling will likely train them to obey you.

On another occasion, if your puppy is on your path, you can lightly nudge him to the side to let him know who’s’ the boss.

Belly rubbing your dog can teach him submission; this can also encourage licking you and showing him that you are his master.

Real training

Training your pup requires determination, training sessions must be short (15 minutes tops) each session. Try to train him several times a day if you have free time. Being consistent in your training methods can make your sessions easier.

Train him on what door to go out is a good way, let him out of the back door and don’t change the way it is because dogs can become confused and will likely forget your routines.

Give him the appropriate rewards for his behavior, give him food when he did something nice and punish him of errors, correcting bad behavior during its event can easily teach him not to do it again.

Other than housebreaking, there are also other tricks he can learn at your whim. Train him to sit by just saying “sit” (nudging him down can do the trick). A firm voice is also needed on making him obey your commands. After a constant repetition, he will then sit on his own, give him something in return like dog food snacks.

You can teach your pup to shake by getting his paw and putting it on your hands while saying the word “shake”. Then, a constant repetition will give him the idea that that was the command for the trick, and he will likely know that a nice reward will come around soon will hasten its training.

With the constant training, your dog can now start doing things on his own. There are also other tricks you can learn such as jumping, fetching, lying down, and staying still. Training your pup while still young is better because most of the time, dogs are harder to train when they are already old. Training is a very challenging and also frustrating, but in the end, it will likely be very rewarding.
